Am Weinberg is one of Namibia’s best restaurants, built on the site of one of Namibia's first wine estates. Am Weinberg, roughly translated as “on the wine hill,” maintains a stately farmhouse ambience, but owner, Roland Losch, has brought the building into the 21st century with bold colours, modern paintings and classy furnishings both new and old.
Roland is more than just a restaurant owner. He also has a Ph.D. in aeronautical engineering. Obviously a smart fellow, Roland travelled extensively and is a great person with whome to to strike up a conversation.
One of the first gourmet restaurants in the country, the property was built in 1910, when the Klein Windhoek Valley was mostly grass and bush and a smattering of houses. The wine estate itself lasted into the 1950’s when it gradually converted to growing vegetables and flowers. In 2004 the restaurant opened after an extensive, loving restoration.
Roland changes the menu periodically, but you can count on a few Am Weinberg staples every time. You will always find the finest fillet steaks, game steaks and a variety of seafood dishes. Roland adds his own special touches to standard dishes, and he will also make sure his chefs offer you something you have not likely experienced before.
As one of Windhoek’s finest gourmet restaurants, Am Weinberg Restaurant offers the sophisticated diner a healthy and well crafted menu in a stately and elegant atmosphere. As you might expect, Am Weinberg has a wide selection of South African wines, and you can sip yours from a terrific vantage point while viewing the sunset over the Klein Windhoek valley.
