Dare Devil Adventures
Dare Devil Adventures operates from its base at Langstrand. You can choose either a manual bike for top speeds, or fully automatic if your main objective is to enjoy the scenery rather than seek thrills. Qualified guides accompany every group, rescuing riders stuck in the sand, calmly talking down those who have a change of heart high on the dunes, and bringing water along for pit stops.
Rides can vary from thirty minutes to four hours, and you can make special arrangements for other trips, too. The most popular option, a two hour ride ending just before sunset, gives you plenty of time to become acclimated with the bike and gradually overcome any fears of the higher dunes. Once you get the hang of it, it really is a thrill.
There is a feeling you get in the core of your belly at the apex of your ascent up a dune. It is much like throwing a ball up in the air which seems to stop, weightless and motionless for a moment before its descent, as if your vital organs are all experiencing that same momentary suspension inside you before hurtling down the dune.
It is good fun for adrenaline junkies, but Dare Devil also offers an alternative for those who wish to experience this gravity defying sensation, but are not so keen on mounting a quad bike. You can experience the same thrill in a dune buggy. And if you are not inclined to the risk of driving one, a professional will be happy to take you for a spin.
Better than any roller coaster, boosting up the steep dunes, raw power between your legs, and careening down again in what feels almost like free fall – quad biking is a great way to play in the world’s largest sandbox! And you can rest assured you will be doing it with responsible professionals intent on preserving the desert you are exploring.
