Kücki's Seafood Restaurant and Wine Bar
Swakopmund is a tourist destination with a relaxed vibe which Kücki’s perfectly embodies. Kucki’s unique atmosphere of good fun and good food has helped to make Kucki’s one of Swakopmund’s treasured landmarks. It is a local favourite, and if you want to understand what Swakopmund is all about, Kucki’s is the place to go!
Kücki’s is named for the original owner Wolfgang Kühurt. Kucki was the pilot who crashed the plane you see mounted on the wall in the main dining room. Don’t worry, Kücki is alive and well looking after his lodge, the Rostock Ritz (pg &&&). Decades ago, Kücki opened his restaurant with a philiosophy of high quality food and and a spirit of fun.
New owner Walter Steckel has taken the Kücki’s standard and spirit and brought it into the 21st century. A fully modern kitchen, additonal seating upstairs and a new bar were just the start. Norbert and Walter have been at the helm for some years now and have been quite busy refurbishing, adding to the menu and building the wine bar.
The wine bar is a beautiful work of architecture and interior design, with regal dark wood and deep burgundy cushions. It is like a separate restaurant within the restaurant with a much more mellow, classy atmosphere. It is a great place for a quiet evening with friends or family. It is as sophisticated as Kücki’s is fun.
The seating capacity has been growing over the years, and with it, the menu. But Kücki’s still focuses on great steaks and terrific seafood. Beef, game and all manner of seafood are on the menu, wholesome food with lots of butter and garlic, mushrooms or peri-peri sauce. There are too many dishes to mention, but suffice it to say, it is legitimate Swakopmund fare.
Swakopmund’s location between the dunes and the sea make it one of Namibia’s favourite tourist attractions. It’s pleasant vibe has the effect of giving even the residents a vague sense of always being on holiday. That is the vibe you will find in Kücki’s pub, with good food and good times on the menu every night!
